In 1987 my world, at age 14, completely fell apart when my sister Leanne was brutally murdered on her 17th birthday. We were such happy kids, with parents who worked hard on our family run livery yard. Leanne was at college, training to be a riding instructor. She was not only my big sister, she was my best friend, my mentor. Since then I have battled with my mental health, and still now, I have not come to terms with my loss.
In 2014, to escape from a house fire, I jumped from my bedroom window, sustaining life changing physical injuries, which have left me disabled, in a wheelchair and unable to work. My mental health deteriorated even further and soon came the diagnoses of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) . It got so bad I was too scared to even leave my own home. I was ready to give up on life, because of the mental and physical pain. Then a 5 month old puppy came into my life, all feet and legs and was like a terrified rabbit. We named him Thumper. It soon became evident that we needed, and truly understood, each other. With thumper permanently at my side, I begun to be less fearful of the world. He is a constant comfort, and just accepts me for who I am. Just having him by my side takes away my anxiety and slowly I am beginning to rebuild my life.
And then just some months ago, we were told that Thumper has hip dysplasia and needs 2 new hips, He is just 4 years old. This has come as yet another devastating blow. Due to a loophole in his insurance, the insurance company will pay nothing towards the cost of the surgery. I am appealing to friends and animal lovers alike to help me get my boy the surgery he needs. Please, if you can help me and my boy in any way at all, we will be forever grateful.
