Story
A group of Thurston residents have decided that they wish to continue the work started by The New Green Community Trust of providing a Skate Park for use by the youth population of the village. To facilitate this, they formed a Group on the 21st May 2016.
The New Green Community Trust had surveyed the village in February and March 2016 to establish if there was support to create new facilities for the youth of the village. There was significant support and the survey identified a skate park as a preferred facility.
The Community Trust were unable to get approval from their Landlord for the development of a skate park on the Trust’s site.
Because of the degree of interest, the Trust asked the Village Community if they wished to try and take the idea forward by finding another location and forming a Group to manage the project.
These events coincided with the tragic death in the village of a young skateboarder, Ben Wragge. Ben's family expressed a wish to try and establish a skate park in his memory. This wish was endorsed by the new Group. Ben’s family had received donations following his death and the family have pledged the funds to the Skate Park Group if they are able to develop a feasible plan to provide the skate park including raising additional funds.
