What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

On 3rd November 2017, Tony and Carol were given the life-changing news that Tony had lung cancer. Over the next week, the enormity of what they had to face unfolded. Their future was bleak. Tony’s cancer was incurable; an aggressive cancer already at a late stage. They had to come to terms with their reality very quickly and the impact it would have on their hopes, dreams and lives.

They walked through parks, along the river, visited cafes, rode their bikes, took photographs (Tony’s favourite pastime) and listened to their favourite music. They spent time together, wrapped in a bubble. Tony & Carol started to live mindfully each day in gratitude of the things they love and value. This became an important routine, to start each day with a sense of optimism and wellbeing.

Time together was key to getting through their cancer journey. They leant on each other to remain positive, upbeat and happy, embracing the moment and sharing memories with their family and friends. The cancer didn’t take over their lives, they lived with it, while they focused on the positive.

In some of the darkest moments, Tony used mindfulness to get him through his painful ordeal. He would visit in his mind his beautiful “Island” in the sun, playing his guitar and eating banana pancakes. The island worked miracles for Tony; and created a sense of calm, none of the pharmaceutical drugs he was taking could achieve.

Ever determined to make something good out of darkness, they decided to set up a small charity that gave other families, in similar situations, an opportunity to spend quality time together when first facing a terminal diagnosis. Time in beautiful surroundings to come to terms as a family, with what they are facing and to learn some of the techniques that helped Tony and Carol get through their own journey. The idea is that the Charity will cover all travel costs and provide spending money for families to spend 5 days at Tony and Carol’s dream home in Uzes, France. While there, Carol will use her French cookery skills and teach different mindfulness and positive thinking techniques to help over the coming months.

The charity is to be called T&C (Time and Comfort). Carol with her family are in the process of setting up and registering the charity.

However, for the time being they have set up a Just Giving page to raise money for the first of many families to share this comfort at undoubtedly the hardest point in their lives.
