Story
As part of the Air Cadet Junior Leaders course (most mentally and physically challenging course open to cadets) I have been tasked with raising at least £500 for The John Thornton's Young Achievers foundation and also for our own Sqn funds (50/50 split).
John Thornton completed the Junior Leaders Course and was awarded the top student for his attainment whilst on the course. He later instructed on the course as a member of staff. John was commissioned as a Royal Marine officer in 2004. He was tragically killed in Afghanistan in 2008.
Today, the JTYAF provide bursaries for numerous organisations, including the Air Cadets, to change the lives of the people who receive the bursaries and also for those in foreign countries who receive the work.
This summer JTYAF will provide bursaries for 10 Junior Leader graduates to travel to Ghana and complete work on a derelict primary school there to vastly improve the education system for the locals.
