Tom was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 10months old and throughout his development he has surpassed all expectations thanks to his sheer determintion after being told he would never walk. He had frequesnt visits to his physio and she recommended that Tom should try to find a sport that would help with his therapy and channel his energy! Following multi level surgery at the age of 8, he started to show an interest in wheelchair basketball. Tom was introduced to a team in tidworth called wiltshire wildcats and this is where Tom was advised by a visiting coach to join a competative wheelchair basketball club. He joined hampshire harriers based in southampton where he was soon competing with adults at the age of 13 in a national league. After 2 seasons, Tom was asked by a number of clubs about joining them; he chose south coast tornados based in little hampton. He travelled, and still is travelling, twice a week for training and matches. Tom has been with tornados for multiple years and are now playing national premier league travelling accross the country. During those intervening years, Tom has also been selected, and captained, South East region in the national junior championships. He has played for 4 years with the south of england team the school games winning 3 bronze and 1 silver medal. Tom is now currently an under 19’s and 23’s member of the GB squad and is progressing nicely towards the european and world championship selection. To aid his progression he is now in need of a suitable wheelchair as all wheelchairs for this sport are made for the player specifically.
