    Story

    Hello,

    We’re Emily and Rebecca, and we live in Sheffield. Sheffield, like most UK cities, has widespread homelessness.

    It’s hard to know what to do for the best. We all know that homelessness exists, and given the current political climate it’s going to continue to exist, and probably just get worse. We’re not flushed for cash, we’re students, but realise that we’re in a privileged position and doing something is better than doing nothing. We’re tired of sitting around discussing how terrible the situation is and not doing anything to alter it.

    So, in homage to the now sadly defunct Rucksack Project, we have decided to start Totes for Folks, a smaller scale, localised, and more DIY mini-project. Our intentions are similar in that we will be distributing (hopefully full) bags of supplies to those in need on Sheffield’s streets and we need your help to fill them.

    We hope to deliver the bags in mid December, each bag will contain:

    Clothing;

    A wooly hat
    A pair of gloves
    A wooly scarf
    Thick socks

    Toiletries;

    Bar of soap
    Wet wipes
    Toothbrush
    Toothpaste
    Sanitary products

    Food and Drink;

    500ml bottle of water
    Cereal bars
    Crisps
    Biscuits
    Sandwiches
    An apple and an orange

    All fresh food will be purchased using any donations prior to delivery. Anybody with a good bread-buttering technique or packing skills, let us know if you fancy making some sandwiches and/or helping to fill the bags at totesforfolks@gmail.com. Similarly, if you would prefer to donate any of the above items as opposed to cash, that would be massively welcomed! If this is the case, please email to arrange pick up/delivery address.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH, we appreciate any support, financial or otherwise.

    Lots of love,

    Rebecca and Emily xox

    PS. We are well aware it’s a bit pretentious to set up a special email account but this kind of thing is totally out of character for us, and otherwise any messages would be lost in a sea of Pizza Hut vouchers.
