    Story

I have been living in Norwich, United Kingdom for two years. Sea Palling on the Norfolk coast has become my adopted training ground for my last two successful swims for the Catalina Channel and Manhattan Island Circumnavigation. My next challenge is the North Channel - 21.5 miles - in the Irish Sea from Northern Ireland to Scotland. All of these ultra marathon swims are in togs (swim costume), cap and goggles only. The North Channel has an average August water temperature of 14 degrees (currently it is 12.7). It is a rough body of water with very strong currents. Sea Palling can be all of this and this is why it is such a great training ground. In fact, it's feeling a little too toasty now at a warm 16-17 degrees! A load of us train here all year round and the Sea Palling Independent Lifeboat Station crew keep a watchful eye over us. We don't always know they do - but we know they are always there. ! Not just for us, but for the thousands of people enjoying this beautiful blue flag beach. It's time to give back to an amazing and selfless local service.
