Our very dear friends both in their 70's were burgled yesterday in broud daylight. They were sat in the Garden and a burglar went upstairs and stole a safe with alot of money in it and precious jewellary belonging to the wife. What makes this situation worse is that the man is suffering with a terminal illness, he also had a stroke and pnemonia and was hosptilised all over the Christmas period. This couple have been through hell and back over the past 2 years wondering if he would survive. Remarkably due to his passion for life and pure hard work his recovery was going well. Sadly though he could no longer drive and therefore had to sell his car and their beloved caravan which they used to go to in cornwall at least 3 times a year. The funds from the 2 sales were placed in a safe and totalled £8000. Sadly due to all the medical appointments and focussing on his recovery they had not got round to renewing their home insurance so this loss is not covered.

What makes this so hard is that our friend was making a good recovery and this has really set him back, the thought that they have lost all of that money, the only money they would ever had is devasting and hard to recover from. In addition the jewellary that was stolen has such sentimental value for the wife as her husband had brought it over the years for their anniversary.

If you had met this couple you would know how deeply in love they are and how everyday of his illness has taken its toll over the past 2 years. It is just devastating that now as his recovery was going so well, these burglars have set him back weeks if not months and stripped them of all they had for their retirement years.
