Story
We are organising this ride in support of one of our dearest Clapham Cycle members who has a family member who is terminally ill. Whilst it is frustrating that we cannot help, what we can do is raise some much needed funding for Trinity Hospice who have been unbelievable in their care for this person.

Information on Trinity Hospice
• At any one time, Trinity is caring for 700 people. Last year, Trinity cared for 2,500 people and their families.
• 80% of the people we support are cared for in their own homes, which is where most people prefer to be.
• All our services are free to patients and their friends and families.
Their Funding
• It costs over £12million a year to maintain Trinity’s services.
• Trinity receives only a quarter of its income from the NHS and must raise over £9 million each year for our services to continue.
• For every £1 donated, Trinity spends at least 70p on providing compassionate end of life care. The rest is invested to grow our income.
Their Shops
• Trinity has 26 charity shops selling a range of donated and new items, including high end men and women’s fashion, jewellery, and pieces for the home.
• We have a specialised furniture shop in Putney and a dedicated menswear shop in Kensington.
• All the profits from our shops go towards supporting the work of the hospice. Last year, sales from our shops raised over £4 million for Trinity.
Their Volunteers
• More than 500 people volunteer regularly for Trinity, in our shops, the hospice and in people’s homes
• Over 300 volunteers help in our shops and in our warehouse, serving customers, organising displays and pricing and sorting donations.
• Over 200 people volunteer at the hospice and in the community, providing invaluable support through roles as varied as bereavement counselling, fundraising, complementary therapy, gardening and visiting patients at home.
Unmet need
• Around 550,000 people die in England each year.
• Research shows that most people want to die in the comfort of their own home yet 50% of people die in hospital, the place most people would least want to be.
• The number of people who will need palliative care is expected to rise by over 40% by 2040. Much of the growth will be linked to an ageing population, and a sharp rise in the number of people living with cancer and dementia.
