Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
I am raising money to go towards the construction of a mosque in the local Muslim community of Nubia in Kisii town, Kenya.
I recently returned from Kisii, having spent three months on a volunteering programme with Balloon Ventures, a social enterprise aimed at defeating poverty in developing countries through entrepreneurship and business skills education and training.
During my time out there, I was fortunate enough to visit my local mosque for prayers and meet with fellow Muslims from the community. In conversation, I heard that there was a new mosque under going construction, however the local community were struggling to raise further donations to progress works. I decided to visit to see for myself, and had the opportunity to meet with the Imam and as well as the locals. I learned that the previous mosque had been built in the year 1924 and shaheed (demolished) in 2017.
One of the biggest challenges facing the community is the lack of space for prayer, teaching and wash facilities. Another challenge I've witnessed is that the Nubia community is quite some distance from the main mosque in town, making it inaccesible for many during prayer times, especially for the elderly.
I have witnessed first hand the levels of poverty faced by many people in this region, yet have been taken back by the level of gratitude shown in how far the project has progressed to date. I attach pictures of the progress made so far, but as you can see there is still so much work to be done. There is also a costs breakdown of the works to be completed for the next phase (roofing).
The community are currently relying on private donations to help progress works, and have been active in collecting from surrounding towns and cities. Your donations, however small or large will go towards crucial building works and materials, contributing to the overall aim of creating a place of worship for the Muslim community.
I am in direct contact with the mosque treasurer, a highly respected ambassador in the Muslim community and a very dear freind to me. He will be responsible for ensuring your donations serve the intended purpose, and will be sure to provide me with receipts and regular updates as to the works progress. I will also provide updates on this page InShAllah.
£1,000 is a small starting target considering the work to be done, but I am confident that this can be exceeded with your support and duas. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to get in touch.
May Allah S.W.T accept and reward you for your efforts! Ameen
