Weʼve raised £1,337 to pay for the historic aircraft Vampire WZ507 next year’s annual service and repaint to make it available for the public to enjoy at airshows.

    Story

Our aim is to preserve the historic aircraft Vampire WZ507 for the public to enjoy at airshows and other events, including education and STEM activities.

In 1980 WZ507 became the first ex-RAF jet fighter to be put onto the UK civilian register (as G-VTII), after being restored to full flying condition by the SAS. This paved the way for other historic ex-military aircraft to find a new life after retirement to grace the skies once again for everyone to enjoy.

Over the last few years a large number of heritage jets disappeared from the British skies, either sold abroad or grounded forever - 2 Meteors, 1 Vulcan, 2 Vampires, 2 Venoms, 1 Canberra, all civillian Hunters, a number of Jet Provosts and Strikemasters are just a few examples. It is increasingly difficult to keep this last airworthy Vampire T11 in Europe flying but you can still help.

Many thanks to everyone who donated to keep the Vampire flying. We are hoping to attend the Midlands Air Festival and all are supporters are invited to Wellesbourne to see the aircraft departing for the airshow on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of June.

Today the last ex Air Atlantique C47 Dakota departs Coventry for a new home across the Atlantic. Once it’s safely enroute work will recommence on the vampire, with checks to the braking bags and main wheels to be reattached. Yesterday the nicad battery was sent for its capacitance check.

Many thanks to Everyone for your support. It enabled us to renew the Display Authorisation for 2022 and hopefully display the Vampire T11 at airshows. The next hurdle is maintenance due in February and more of your support is needed.
