I am travelling to Sri Lanka with the help of the Rosie May Foundation in order to work with the local community, specifically with children and women. Rosie May began working in Sri Lanka after the Tsunami that took place in 2004 and have set up projects overseas ever since.
The project includes empowering under privileged children by embarking on an English Development programme in the rural communities of Sri Lanka, this also entails organising extra curricular activities for the children after school , enabling them to enjoy their time as well as develop transferable skills.
Travelling to Sri Lanka will allow interns for the RMF to re-integrate children by working with families daily and encouraging them to become self-sustainable , thus helping them prevent the abandonment of children, helping to increase the quality of life as well as infant mortality rates.
The way this will be done is through developing effective community relations with the locals, understanding their way of life and helping them understand the need for such projects.
One of the main focuses of this project will be gender equality. This will entail empowering girls and young women in underprivileged circumstances to focus on their education, in consonance with human rights in order to break the cycle of poverty and unlock their potential.
This project will also allow me to work with different NGOs centred in Sri Lanka , thus allowing me to monitor and evaluate existing RMF projects in order to take note of their success rate and the positive impact they've had in the community as well as how we can improve to benefit a wider variety of individuals.
