I am the activities co-ordinator at Parkview Care Home Gillingham, I have recently moved from administrator to this roll.
I work with residents who have dementia and would love to raise money so we can build them there own sensory room.
Some people may ask what is dementia well here's a small overview.
The word dementia describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease or a series of strokes.
Dementia affects many people and since coming into this roll I have learnt a great deal. Activities are so important for these reasons,Mental Stimulation, Physical Activity and General Health, Social Interaction, Improved sleep habits,Improvement in self-esteem, Decrease depression and anxiety and Minimize behavioral challenges.
I have arranged to do a sponsored walk of 5.62 miles around Chatham and Gillingham Kent on the 25th February 2017 to help raise funds.
