    Story

    Victoria Olabode who was a twin suffered from sickle cell for twelve years until 15th July 2019. Her dream was to help children with Blood related illnesses like sickle cell through awareness and advocacy.

    Her sickle cell illness was well managed until she was admitted and abandoned in the Royal Manchester Children’s hospital where doctors failed to administer the right treatment to save her life. We believe Victoria was neglected and want her life and loving spirit never to be forgotten.

    The family have decided to form a foundation to help affected children in UK and Africa. Money raised here will be channelled to form a registered charity focussed on improving awareness of sickle cell, management and treatment. Never again should a child die in the NHS due to ignorance or negligence.

    In summary;

    1. Victoria was abandoned on the ward for 72 hours despite doctors and nurses being advised on care path. CT/MRI scan and Exchange Transfusions were not done on time. Hygiene and bed care were not consistently provided. Victoria suffered eye damage and painful bed sores.

    2. Victoria also suffered Brain damage that could very easily have been avoided had the been attention to detail and adherence to standard procedures.

    3. Victoria’s dream was to help save children with sickle cell, but sadly her life was robbed from the world by the NHS and it’s negligence and unprofessional application of care.

    4. The foundation will target under privileged communities where sickle cell thrives due to misinformation and lack of resources in the UK and Africa.

    *A Proportion of the money will be used to meet the legal costs in the fight for justice for Victoria.

    The NHS that we trusted has failed us and we now need justice for Victoria. We don't know who is next and we want to bring an end to the killing of our loved ones by the NHS.

      #JusticeForVictoria Sat. the 5th of September, we the family of of Victoria Olabode visited the burial ground. Victor(Victoria’s twin) as crying heavily, Mother and Dad were in tears uncontrollable knowing that Our beautiful Daughter's death was totally avoidable, if the NHS (RMCH) had rightful thing by following the Guidelines and Instructions given by the On-Consultant and Mum. Dad had to quickly drive away. On getting home Victor cried the whole day and the whole family were in tears and devastating mood. We want justice for Victoria.

      I wish to update on the preliminary findings of the internal investigation conducted. Below is a brief summary of the content of the report and our position The NHS accepted negligence for the 72 hours delay in instituting life saving treatment on Victoria and due apology tendered for the avoidable bed sore Victoria suffered in her last days. Further investigation by external experts is scheduled and hopefully their findings will be made available by September of 2020. Thank you all for support.
