Story
Chris's House is a centre for help, response and intervention surrounding suicide which is based in Wishaw. It was set up by local woman Anne Rowan in memory of her son Chris.
The stats unfortunatley continue to rise in Scotland, with two people completing suicide every day. The stats are higher in Lanarkshire, particularly in young men between the ages of 18 to 25.
Chris's House has over 600 guests and offers help and refuge to people experiencing suicidal or intrusive thoughts and the families and friends of people affected by suicide. The 40 volunteers who help out there carry out councelling sessions, relaxations therapies and work within local schools and work places to raise awareness of mental health issues.
The charity are trying to break down the stigma surrounding mental health. People will talk openly about diabetes or sore backs until they are blue in the face. But will sit in silence, screaming inside, not knowing there are organisations that can help.
It costs £60,000 a year to fnd the service and £3000 a month just to keep its doors open.
