    Story

During 2018, the 1722 Waggonway Heritage Group has more exciting heritage & archaeology events planned, and we need your help to make them happen!

We get a long way on goodwill and practical help, but there are many costs to running the Waggonway Project which we need help with, such as research costs, insurance, core running costs, promotional activities and creative displays / exhibition materials to name but a few.

So, please donate if you can, share this page widely and you'll be helping us to deliver the following projects in 2018:

    1. The creation of a full scale replica coal waggon and section of track, as seen in the 1854 Cadell photos - this is a project that anyone can get involved with, including opportunities for the local schools to take part.

    2. The Big Dig will return in September 2018, with further excavations at Cockenzie Harbour to uncover the salt pan house - really exciting to see what lies beneath! This is the next phase of archaeology in preparation for the regeneration of Cockenzie Harbour.

    3. We are creating an exhibition space alongside our community workshop, where visitors and locals alike will be able to learn the story of Scotland's first railway and view the ongoing creation of the waggon relpica at first hand!

Thank you once again - and please do contact us to get invloved!
