Story
Barry & Kerry, proprietors of Waltham Kitchen & Cafe Buzz, are doing the 52 mile "James Herriot Way" walk in aid of North East Lincolnshire Parent Participation Forum (NELPPF). NELPPF is a voluntary parent-carer led organisation acting as the collective voice for other local parents of children / young people with special needs and disabilities (SEND). We are one of over 150 parent forums nationally and work in co-production with the Local Authority, Clinical Commissioning leads, NHS England and other SEND services to ensure that decisions affecting our children are right for our children. The forum has been running now for nearly ten years and reaches it parental audience through social media, stalls at parent events, regular coffee mornings, etc. We also provide training where possible to enable parent carers in their caring role but none of these things come for free and our small annual budget from the government's Department of Education does not stretch far enough for the needs we know are out there. With many families in crisis and austerity cuts biting harder than ever, every little bit you can give will just make it easier for us to reach out a hand of hope to those who feel "abandoned by the system".
