Story

John and Jan want our daily walks to have more purpose than just exercise!

Many children in Stevenage's twin town of Kadoma in Zimbabwe come from impoverished backgrounds which means no-one can pay their school fees. For many years Stevenage Kadoma Link Association (SKLA) has raised funds to pay for about 65 such children to provide for their education, to invest in their future and in their community too. BUT lockdown has prevented us from holding our usual fundraising events.

Like many people, we are exercising daily, walking 3 miles or so. Exercise is good for us - but we have another purpose now!

Between 1st February and 15th March we plan to walk the distance between Zimbabwe's capital city Harare and Kadoma to (virtually) deliver £1300 for school fees. This is approximately 100 miles. The money will be channelled in the same safe way as it has been for over 30 years - through SKLA and its sister organisation in Kadoma.

We have lots more information about the school fees scheme, and some wonderful stories about the children and young people who have passed through it. Just ask us! You could get on board as a regular supporter too.

So will you give us the incentive to keep walking, and even more important, help to invest in the education of young people in Kadoma - bright, determined, ambitious - but financially struggling?

1p a mile equates to £1, while10p a mile equates to £10 and £1 a mile equates to £100!!
