Story
They say everyone has a story to tell!, So my story starts with my wifes Dad and him unfortunately losing his battle to prostrate cancer, and that was only 1 week before my devastating news. 2016, 15th March around 3pm, I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 58, (somethings you never forget). If you have been there you will understand when I say my life came to a sudden standstill within seconds. All the plans you may of made, ie, career/ holidays/moving/celebrating/money, just to name a few, don't exist anymore because they don't matter and believe me I'm not exaggerating. You always think these things only happen to other people!! Not Me. Well let me remind you that every 2 minutes someone is diagnosed with cancer, with a ratio of 1 in every 2 people, WOW!. Please take a few moments to digest these statistics. I had a major operation on 15th April 2016, another date I will never forget. 1 foot of my large bowel was taken away and a couple of other things, and I was left with a ileostomy bag with the hope of a reversal at a later stage of healing. I had a couple of close calls with the bag as sometimes they don't work properly so infection can cause big problems. My Oncologist advised me that I needed chemo as they found traces of cancer cells still floating in my viascascular area even though they removed 32 lymph nodes, I knew chemo was a poison so why would I want to do that to my body? I said, we can only advise you as it has to be your choice!! After taking a couple of weeks to think about it, I was told I now have to make a choice as time was getting on and it could be to late, so I agreed to start the treatment. I remember being 3 months into the chemo I realized I was dying slowly, and with a weight loss of 3 stone very quickly, I didn't recognise myself in the mirror anymore and the expression on people's faces said it all. So I stopped the treatment 5 months shorter then they asked me to do. I read and read book after book to gain information regarding these awful disease we get, so I became totally Holistic,(of which I would like to talk about later) Anyway 12 months later I asked my surgeon Mr Killeen for a reversal of my ileostomy he told me it may not be possible As he removed parts of my sphincter muscles so I may be incontinent, so it would be a chance and it may not work properly with my toilet, but I needed to get the bag off my body so went ahead with the operation, and nearly a year on I am still re-training my toilet habits, not sure if it will change for the better. I have left out all the heartache from this story, but believe me that was massive and without the help of my wife / family and friends, I would not have survived. Now that brings me to the main reason behind this story it's all about the people who saved my life and the picture above says it all, I describe these people as' Angels in Disguise ' I have never experienced professional people so dedicated to what they do, in any other profession on this planet!! yet they are desperately struggling with the lack of much needed Equipment on their wards for staff and patients, they often have to beg and borrow from other wards or some
how manage with what they have, and they do this with a smile all the time. I have recently visited ward 10 at Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham,Hull, were I was taken care of like so many others and it was full of patients like always. That is why I am appealing to All of us to please support these Angels of ours, they need our Help just like we need there's on a daily basis, just a donation of £1 is all I ask and if you cannot donate I appreciate you reading this story and would you please share this with your friends and family as we all know someone will be affected by cancer who is close to our Hearts. I would like to Thank you all from the bottom of my Heart in my experience. Wayne xxx. P.S. I am touring around Europe from May after my CT Scan in the hope to keep supporting our Angels as cancer is worldwide
