Story
Wayne 'Waynebow' Griffiths, is competing in a charity boxing match to to raise funds for Harry Senior, organised by Allan Gray of AG Services.
Allan trained with Harry at the Henry Cooper gym, Thomas a Beckett and Lennox Lewis College under the guidance of Bryan Lawrence.
Harry suffered a stroke on the 2nd December 2009, during a sparring session with Albert Sosnowski ahead of the Polish fighter’s European title fight with Paolo Vidoz, and subsequently required lifesaving surgery at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neuro-surgery at Queen Square in London, where he had part of his skull removed to allow his brain to swell, before starting the slow road to recovery at The Frank Cooksey Rehabilitation Unit at King’s College Hospital.
During his distinguished career Harry boxed for England in the amateurs and fought the best domestic fighters in the pro ranks, including Danny Williams for the Commonwealth title. He also won the Southern Area Heavy title against an unbeaten Michael Sprott in a thriller at York Hall.
The fund raiser is on Saturday November 12th 2016, we would appreciate everyone’s support whether they can attend or donate an auction prize. Allan sat with Harry and Dave Walker on Allan's table this year at the London ex boxer’s awards and it was heart-breaking to see Harry. Allan hadn't seen him since before his surgery in 2009.
Any amount raised for an ex-champion who I boxed with will be greatly appreciated. The show will feature 7 fights all at 3 x 2 rounds and most fighters are novices with little or no experience.
Allan has also managed to secure the services of none other than former World champion " Celtic warrior" Steve Collins as host and referee.
Wayne ' Waynebow' Griffiths will be taking part after 6 weeks of intense training by Allan. Wayne hopes that by doing this he can raise awareness and in turn funds to support Harry.
