Story
In May 2017, the Westgate School U16 girls badminton team became National Champions, following 5 years of hard work, training and hours of commitment. As a result of this outstanding performance, they have been selected to represent England at the World School Games in India, in April 2018. This is the first time that a school from Hampshire has been invited to the World School Games, and it is an honour to see The Westgate School's school name alongside the best schools in the World.
In order to support the girls, and the cost of travelling and competing at this competition, we are raising money through sponsored events at school, and looking to crowd fund some of the cost of the £7500 that it takes to attend this prestigious competition.
The girls spend approx. 15 hours per week training, and successfully do this alongside taking academic exams. They also manage to fit in coaching and inspiring younger players at The Westgate Badminton Centre in their own time. They have also all become qualified sports leaders and spend time running events for local primary school pupils.
