    Story

"I felt like my life had disappeared...been taken away from me"

Two years ago Martha was a happy, busy teenager. On every sports team imaginable and totally full of life. A talented young golfer, she was part of the Prince's junior coaching Academy and under county coaching too. Then a condition called CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome) struck, totally out of the blue.

Notoriously difficult to diagnose, months went by with increasing crippling pain and rapid loss of mobility. Suddenly Martha was bed-ridden, unable to go to school, and facing appointment after appointment with doctors and specialists in an effort to get to the bottom of things.

Finally the Evelina unit in London's was able to identify CRPS and offer support and a plan for the future, along with pain management advice from Guy's and St. Thomas' hospitals. But the reality is, for the moment at least, Martha can only move around in a wheelchair. Without doubt there have been low times, and feelings no child should have to go through, but Martha is a fighter (on and off the golf course). With her strong will and the support of a close family she's finding ways to tap into what used to make her the happiest - her sport.

In Martha's words; "When I feel even the tiniest bit strong enough I force myself to get into that wheelchair and move however I can. It's the only thing that makes me feel good again. It hurts like hell the next day, but it's totally worth it!"

And here's the problem. Martha's NHS wheelchair, whilst functional, is very heavy, tricky to manoeuvre is far harder work than a wheelchair designed for sporting use.

So with the help of the golfing and wider community the Prince's Golf Club Lady Captain's charity this year is hellbent on getting Wheels for Martha. As a very valued and popular junior at the Club we just want to see her active and happy.

Martha aims to increase awareness of CRPS having gone through the frustrations of diagnosis - and is also keen to start a network specifically for teenagers suffering from the condition. We at Prince's are so proud to support her.

Please donate now, and help us make a real difference to a very brave young lady's life.

Punching the air!!! I'm waiting for final numbers from the fundraising morning at the weekend BUT WE'VE DONE IT. I'm meeting with Martha and the wheelchair manufacturers on Thursday and we're getting that chair! Thank you, thank you, thank you to all you wonderful people, far and wide, who have MADE THIS HAPPEN. On Thursday Martha, her family and I will discuss how to use any future funds to help her ongoing progress. Whatever, whatever it takes to help her and at the same time support her passion for awareness of CRPS. Big love from me x
