Hi. I am Lexi. I am a new below knee amputee for CRPS. I am 8 weeks post op. Whilst recouperating I decided I wanted to do something to get myself fit again. 6 years ago I had routine surgery for hammer toes and ended up with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome in my foot. After 6 surgeries I asked for my leg to be removed in an attempt to be pain free. So far Im recouperating well. I am dependant on my very heavy NHS wheelchair. It was whilst using this chair that I wondered how far I could travel using a chair. So in to my head popped the idea that Id like to see if I can push myself to complete LEJOG using a normal everyday wheelchair. I will also be setting a new world record. It is 874-1000 miles depending on route. Before my surgery my goal was to run again as soon as possable. Then reality set in and I realised that id have to learn to walk again 1st, and this was going to take a long time so, I had to adjust my goals and expectations. Why do I want to to do this? To show that having a disability doesnt mean the end of your life. It doesnt mean that you cant achieve something big. I have been limited by my condition for so long, and now I feel like im starting to recover. I hope to maybe inspire others to realise that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Im not a professional athlete. Just an ordinary person trying to achieve something extraordinary. Funding and sponsorship depending, I plan to start my challenge in June 2020. I will be raising funds for Steel Bones amputee charity along route. So what do I need from you? Logistical help. Funding for accommodation, petrol for a support vehicle, a wheelchair to complete my event in (which will be used for training and the event), food and fluid for the journey, spare wheelchair parts incase of breakages, and funding for support people. Any amount would be greatfully recieved. This idea started as a challenge, and its now become more than that. It is my recovery. The start of a fitter, more mobile life.
