Weʼve raised £20,080 to challenge the UK government. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought discrimination to Deaf people. This needs to be addressed urgently.

    Story

Lack of British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters during the COVID pandemic has led to legal cases being brought against the government. We are not giving up. On social media platforms, the campaign has been gaining some real momentum over the past couple of months, we have been posting regular reminders and posters onto social media platforms to ensure we don’t get forgotten about!

Lynn Stewart-Taylor, the founder of #WhereIsTheInterpreter campaign and its supporters are raising awareness and understanding of the importance of British Sign Language for the deaf community. These should be on platform, live briefings, at any time for any announcement, but especially throughout the pandemic.

The daily Coronavirus briefings that Boris Johnson held had no sign language interpreter provision on the BBC1 channel, Lynn quotes “ I knew something bad was going on but I couldn’t understand what and how bad it was, I felt sick with panic and worry” had there been a sign language interpreter available while watching the news ‘live’ on the platform, it would have given me the information I needed to keep myself & my family/friends safe.

“It's time to take action,” Lynn said.

Lynn and fellow fundraiser Mark Hodgson, are going to walk from Gloucester to London to raise awareness and to educate the UK government into taking action. Upon arrival in London Lynn will be posting letters to the Prime Minister urging him to take action.

We need you help, please follow the #WhereIsTheInterpreter page and donate, every little penny helps. This is not only for our generation but for future deaf generations, to protect and promote equality and parity to information.
