It has never been more important for girls in developing countries to receive an education and opportunities to lift them out of poverty. Educate a girl and you empower her community. Education is not only necessary to give girls skills and literacy, but also to inform them of their human rights, and sexual and reproductive rights; to give them the power to take decisions about their lives into their own hands.

I will be working as an intern in Uganda for Women In Leadership Uganda for three months. Their vision is for women and girls to be in positions of leadership acting as role models for future generations whilst promoting equality in Uganda.

I will be an intern for the Teen Voices programme (part of WIL Uganda) starting in February, and I will be helping girls to have their voices heard at an international level. I will assist the girls in writing about the difficulties they face, and will help to publish their stories online; bringing their stories to a wider audience. By helping these young women to share their stories and the challenges they face to a wider community, they can become advocates for change.

All the money I raise will go towards the Teen Voices programme; helping the girls on an individual level, as well as raising awareness of the challenges they face.
