On 31st March 2017 I was devastated by the sudden death (at only 28) of my much loved and admired scout leader Dan Fleetwood. In memory of the amazing person that Dan was, starting on Monday 21st August 2017, I am cycling the 100 mile South Downs Way to raise money for a cause very important to him.

Snowball Plantation activity centre in York provides young people like me amazing opportunities to experience new skills and activities which enable us to grow in confidence and flourish. I am hoping to raise money for a defibrillator cabinet and further activity provision so that it may continue to enrich the lives of so many young people.

As both a cub and a scout I have spent a lot of time at Snowball Plantation and have many memories of fun camps, pack nights and many other activities. A huge part of what made those things so good was Dan. He was so enthusiastic and energetic and always had just as much fun as we did. He was also very caring and helpful and as such I admired him very much. He loved scouting and young people in scouting loved him too.

I want to raise money for this fantastic cause in memory of Dan because not only did he enjoy Snowball so much and the activities it provides but by raising money for a defibrillator it may also save another persons life and prevent other people feeling as sad as we all do now.

This will be a huge challenge for me. Please would you consider sponsoring me so that together we can achieve a lasting memory of Dan.
