    Story

Windrush Initiatives CIC is a Community Organisation supporting the Black Caribbean, African and Dual Heritage communities in Preston. Promoting cohesion, integration and educating about our history, our culture and our heritage

The Windrush Festival has been created to acknowledge those first very courageous 492 West Indians who took the first step to come to England on June 22nd 1948 to help rebuild England after the 2nd World War, because for some reason it is rarely acknowledged. Celebrating our grandparent’s and parent’s presence in Preston / Britain, and acknowledging what they and we went through in the first few decades.

This is the 5th year of the event that has grown and evolved with the valuable support of Prestonian's from all different heritages. Windrush Initiatives find it extremely humbling, flattering and super proud of its success. So the Windrush Festival tries to get the event as close to June the 22nd as possible to give it that significance.

The Windrush Festival is a day of Celebration, family orientated, fun and educational experience. From the Islands cricket match, as cricket was a sport West Indians played, it broke down barriers within communities, created life long friendships and understanding of the West Indian culture.

The Windrush Festival has many facets:
    Live Music form local artists
    Local DJ's
    Fashion show
    Carnival Dance Troupes
    History of our generations
    Local and West Indian Cuisine
    Children's Entertainment
    Cricket Match
