Story
My friend John is 29 and lives in Tanzania. John's dream is to setup a community youth organisation in his home town to help young people there to aim high and succeed in life through coounselling, sports, and education.
To do this he needs complete his teaching degree this year, but he is £900 short. That £900 is for his university fees (TSH1.5M) and living costs (house, water and energy - TSH1M). Up to this point he has self-funded, but that has fallen short this year. John reached out to me when his mother put her own small plot of land up for sale because he could not raise the money elsewhere - this is land they need to grow food.
I want to help John finish his degree and kickstart his community youth work. And John and I want his mother to keep her land. Please consider helping with as little or as much as you can.
Thank you!
…
I met John in Morogoro, Tanzania in 2005 - we lived, studied and volunteered together for a year and stayed in contact after I came home to the UK.
John was brought up near a town called Mwanza on Lake Victoria, his family was poor and he is one of 9 children. It was hard, and he fled his home at 15 becoming homeless.
In 2005 he was invited by a friend to do a training course at a christian missionary base 950km away. With no other options and a lot of prayer from his friend, John took up the offer.
This is where I met John September 2005. We were both 18/19 years old and shared a room for 12 months, travelled around Tanzania together and became great friends (helped as John's English and my Swahili improved!). It was a life changing year for John, giving him renewed drive and ambition. He went back to school to get the qualifications needed to go to uni, which he did.
John's heart is for the young people in his country who are experiencing the same struggles as he did, he truly loves people gets great joy from getting to know them and counselling them through the hard times.
