    Story

We need your support for The Zetland Lifeboat.
The Zetland Lifeboat, is an amazing historical nautical artefact, but to maintain it for the future we need your help.

The Zetland Lifeboat is the last remaining and oldest of its kind in the World, built for and owned by the people of Redcar, and is proudly displayed in the Zetland Lifeboat Museum on the Esplanade.
This maritime vessel is recognised as one of the most important in the country and has a unique place as part of the National Historic Fleet. It was first launched in Redcar in 1802 and during its incredible service, along with the many heroes that crewed her, saved over 500 lives off the dramatic North Sea coast.

Knowledgeable volunteers manage the museum and need to raise funds to make sure the boat remains in Redcar for future generations. All the funding raised will preserve the hull and deck while enhancing the presentation of the Lifeboat and maintaining its historical integrity through the many knocks and scrapes evident along its bow, each one earned during its many lifesaving missions.

The Zetland Lifeboat Museum provides a very popular seafront visitor attraction. From the moment you enter this unique museum, the Lifeboat takes centre stage, an opportunity to get up close and experience the full history surrounding this boat and the lives it saved. Entry to the museum is FREE, so if you are new to discovering this remarkable lifeboat, or haven't been in awhile why not pop along to Redcar Esplanade, when it re-opens for the Easter school holidays, and show your support, you will be very welcome.

The Friends of Zetland Lifeboat Museum is a registered charity.

My position as Chairman of the Zetland Lifeboat Management Committee was the result of years working alongside other volunteers who all had one common aim, that was to care for and promote the Zetland Lifeboat and the museum that had been her home since 1907.
