Hi everyone,

As many of you will know, I am currently pursuing a masters degree in Humanitarianism and Conflict Response at the University of Manchester. This degree involves studying the various ways in which conflicts and natural disasters take place, the presence of various actors within these spaces, and most importantly, how lives and livelihoods can be saved and maintained. This last point proves especially dangerous in present times, for humanitarians and their beneficiaries alike.

Our masters cohort has therefore been given an opportunity to build on our knowledge of these hostile environments with a practical 1 week course, which also includes basic medical training. This course is designed for use in the field where many situations may arise in which it is vital to recognise the correct action and reaction in a rational and calm manner. It is in learning these techniques that we are able to keep ourselves and our beneficiaries safe.

I am sure you can appreciate the importance and need of these skills in humanitarian operations, which is why I am appealing to you, all my family and friends, to not only invest in my professional development, but to invest in the lives of those I will be working with in the future.
