Flora London Marathon 2007 · 22 April 2007 ·

IDCF provides support to charities within Tower Hamlets with specific interest in the Isle of Dogs, Poplar and Limehouse. Its most successful project is the annual Summer Programme that provides a range of co-ordinated activities for children and young people, many of whom live in overcrowded accommodation. The programme encourages them to experience new activities.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and for digging deep to sponsor me online.

Well, the 2007 Flora London Marathon has come and gone and I finished in 3:38:14, placing me 4,881 out of 35,000+ finishers on the day.  I’ve posted a write-up of my day on the UK Runners World website and this can be found here:

http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/localiser/myeventratings.asp?memno=281307&sp=&v=2

As I wrote there, what made it all worthwhile was the knowledge that my sponsors have together donated well in excess of £2,000 to my charity, the Isle of Dogs Community Foundation.  I raised the fundraising target to this figure on the basis that my employer, Morgan Stanley, will match donations up to that amount.  So, with the employer match and Gift Aid, IDCF will receive in excess of £4,500 – THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH

In addition to my sponsors, I appreciate every help that everyone gave:

·          Allis, James, Matthew and India for their support over several weekends of long runs and races and on the day itself

·          The trainers in the Morgan Stanley gym – Anna, Thora, Kelly, Matt, Pete, Greg, Maddie and Tim for all their training, stretching, support and advice

·          Gabrielle in the physio centre for fixing my right leg in time, Paul for some timely sports massages to aid preparation and recovery and Simon for hosting the marathon seminar in January

·          Emma, Linda, Laurie and the rest of the reception team for making my appointments and for their patience on the many occasions I moved them around

·          IDCF for giving me one of their Golden Bond places

·          Friends and colleagues for their kind words of encouragement (and unkind words of discouragement!)

While the race is over and the latest stretch fundraising goal has been passed, IDCF will still welcome any further donations.  Giving through this site is simple, fast and totally secure.  It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me.  IDCF will receive your money more quickly and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.  Higher rate taxpayers can also reclaim the difference between basic and higher rate tax via their tax return.

Your donation will be used by IDCF towards the funding of summer play schemes for children in deprived communities on the Isle of Dogs and in South Poplar.  Find out more about IDCF's work here:

Many thanks for your support.
