Story
Legend has it that in 1860 internationally famous Scottish strength athlete, Donald Dinnie, lifted and carried two granite boulders, weighing a combined 332.5kg (or 733lbs), across the width of the Potarch bridge in Aberdeenshire, a distance of 17 feet. It was and still is a remarkable feat of strength. The stones were originally scaffold counterbalances, with two iron rings inserted.
Since then less than 200 people have managed to break them off the ground. My father was one of the earliest recorded lifters, back in 1970, and if successful I'd be the third second generation lifter.
My challenge is to lift the stones bare-handed. Training has gone well but it'll be a mighty effort for me on the day. My poor fingers will never be the same again! Please donate and support our charity partner Streetwork (a Simon Community service) with the great work they're doing to help the homeless.
