Story
On Sunday 27th September 2020, I am taking part in the Chess Valley Challenge!
https://www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk/events/2020-09-27-chess-valley-challenge-2020
This is a 10-mile walk for Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. I'll be walking from Rickmansworth to Chesham along the River Chess and passing through Frogmore Meadows Nature Reserve. It should be a great day out!
The Trust manage 40 nature reserves across Hertfordshire and Middlesex. I live close to Long Deans reserve in Hemel Hempstead and have really enjoyed walking, running and de-stressing in such a beautiful place. Their sites are havens for wildlife and biodiversity, and an important (and completely free) amenity for people of all ages and walks of life across Hertfordshire.
The Challenge is the Trust's only fundraising event for 2020. They are £250,000 down in income as a result of being unable to run their usual programme of events and family activities over the summer and autumn. Throughout the lockdown, they sent out weekly emails full of activities for home schooling and garden wildlife watching. They re-opened all their reserves to the public as soon as they could.
I realise I'm not walking 50 miles or running a marathon, but please consider sponsoring me if you can -- even a small amount will help. I'll buy you a pint some time to say thank you! After the event, I'll send some photos to this list.
