Story
I'm attempting to run the 2019 Cardiff University/Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 6th October - I say attempting because this will by far by the furthest I've ever run!
Welsh Women's Aid is a charity that is very close to my heart and the work they do is absolutely crucial in helping to prevent abuse and to supporting survivors of abuse in Wales.
In England and Wales domestic abuse costs the lives of two women a week as a result of homicide by a current or former male partner and significant numbers of women self-harm, attempt or commit suicide or experience other mental distress as a result of the impact of violence and abuse. In Wales, women experience twice the levels of ‘any domestic abuse’ compared to men, while rates of ‘any sexual assault’ were also higher for women.
With YOUR help we can transform the lives of survivors across Wales
Your donation will help Welsh Women’s Aid to:
- provide practical and emotional support to survivors
- enable a platform for survivors to support each other, share experiences, and inform service delivery and commissioning
- support a network of member services across Wales to thrive and better aid survivors
- conduct campaigning and policy work to ensure that survivors of violence and abuse get the best deal possible
- raise awareness about the causes and impact of violence and abuse and ensure that this issue is ‘everybody’s business’.
This is a real challenge for me as a seriously lapsed runner, but I've already run further than I ever have before training, so fingers crossed the training will pay off :)
