Story

Welcome to Emma’s Angels’ Team Fundraising Page.

Please support Emma’s Angels as they undertake the 5k Pretty Mudder run to raise vital funds for a very worthwhile cause. We are all pulling together not only to show our support for Emma but also to raise awareness and well deserved funds for the Breast Cancer Ward at Castle Hill Hospitalwhere Emma is receiving her treatment.

You may or may not know Emma, and what we’re about to share isn’t for sympathy but to highlight the importance of checking yourself for cancerous lumps (this applies to your boys too – they need to check their balls!!).  In December 2017, Emma slipped and, by chance, as she landed, she felt a lump in her breast. Rather than ignoring the lump, she immediately visited her GP who referred her for a mammogram scan that confirmed she had cancer. Many scans, blood tests, a lump biopsy and follow-up appointments later Emma had the lump and some lymph nodes removed and commenced chemotherapy in May 2018. She will undergo five months of gruelling treatment, that will wipe her out physically but will reduce the risk of the cancer returning by an amazing 90%. After those five months she will commence four weeks of radiotherapy and will have to take medication for 10 years.

Without the brilliant team at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull and the funding it receives from the NHS and through fundraising, Emma would not have had access to the necessary resources. The doctors and nurses would not have been able to see her so quickly and would not have had the technology and facilities to detect and remove the lump. Nor would she have had the support throughout the process, which is so vital. This isn’t just physical support but also emotional support for her  and her family in coming to terms with something very frightening.

With the money raised from this page, the Breast Cancer Ward at Castle Hill can not only continue to provide services to people like Emma, but can invest in research and development, increasing life expectancy and the prognosis for so many women.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their
lives.  Count up how many women you know and you’ll quickly realise you’re going to be affected one way or another by this horrible disease!

Please give generously.

Thank you,

Emma’s Angels. Xx
