2019 London marathon
Our tips for how to make the most of the day on social media!
Getting your social media right on the day of (as well as before and after) should be a key part of your London marathon strategy. Here's our top tips to make it a success:
Be where the people are
Having runners take part in the biggest running and fundraising event in the UK is a huge opportunity. The eyes of the country will be tuning in so get on board with trending hashtags on the day. No surprises, #LondonMarathon is the most popular hashtag but take a look at https://ritetag.com/ to find other trending hashtags. And don't forget to geotag everything!
Make it interactive
Social media will be a noisy place on the day so you’ll need to use more than the right hashtags to cut through the noise. In the run up to the day why not introduce your runners to your followers. Why are they running for your charity? What will be the song that keeps them going?
Mix up your CTAs
It's inspiring watching people run 26 miles for a cause they care about so let people know how they can register interest to run for you in the 2020 marathon. If they’d rather a different challenge make sure you sign post how else people can support the work you do.
Get to know your runners
You'll already know how inspirational your runners are, so share that knowledge with the world! Each of your runner’s will have their own story and their own reason why they’re running. Queue up some posts for the day of who your runners are and what their story is and a link to donate!
Break it down
How many runners do you have? How much have they raised? What will that amount help your charity to achieve? Or how about setting a goal of how much you can raise in one day and challenging supporters at home to help you reach it.
Say thank you
Whether you say it on the day, before or after. Say thank you! It costs no money to film a quick thank you video. It could be everyone in your office or the people your charity supports. It’s great content and if you make it generic, you can use it again and again.
