The importance of the second ask
As you develop the relationship with your fundraiser, it's important to have regular and concise contact
Here at JustGiving you may hear us say we’re obsessed with the “first donation” or the first ask fundraisers make to their network of supporters. We call this “activation”.
But there’s something almost as important which you and your fundraisers should know and chase - the second ask.
The second time you engage with your fundraisers - be they running a marathon, doing a bubble rush or organising a golf day - the most important thing to do is focus on developing your relationship with them. Let us take care of their page and any queries they might have about making it work for them!
Top tips from the JustGiving success team:
Check in with fundraisers just to talk about their training - how are they getting on?
Keep great notes in your CRM/database/post-it notes*
Engage with your fundraisers early and again within 30 days
By using this approach you can make sure their second ask to their network is timely, relevant but also delivers something new about their fundraising journey. Has their running vest just arrived? Have they just finished a bake sale in their office? These questions will help tease out more of their fundraising story for them to make a more specific ask the next time they reach out to family and friends!
