Kristy and Andy's 100K Challenge for Vasculitis

100K Challenge for Vasculitis · 7 April 2021
In September last year my mum was diagnosed with Primary
Systemic Vasculitis.Vasculitis is a rare inflammatory disease which affects about 2-3000 new people each year in the UK.
In PSV, the body’s own white blood cells (which normally defend us by attacking and removing “foreign” cells in the blood stream) start to attack the cells lining the blood vessels. There is no cure for PSV, but it can usually be controlled by use of steroids, chemotherapy and immune suppressing drugs. Long term drug therapy is often required.
This turned my families and my mums world upside down and
there didn’t seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel but after countless hospital appointments and the amazing doctors at Addenbrookes my mum is starting to get back to her strong and amazing self.
Unfortunately there is still a long way to go and there is
currently no cure and this disease has become a permanent part of my mum’s life.
My mum has been so brave throughout the last year in an already difficult time, she should of received her vaccination earlier and been advised to shield but it was not recognised by the government due to the diseases rarity, everyday without the vaccination was another day we feared she might get COVID-19.
Me and my Dad have decided to take on the challenge of running 100km throughout the month of May to raise money for Vasculitis UK, in order to help in any way we can to find a cure
for this awful disease.
If you could donate anything it would mean the absolute world not only to me and my family, but everyone who suffers with this disease.
We have watched my mum fight so hard over the last year and we would love to be able to help not only her but everyone fighting Vasculitis.
