walk and run 2000 miles · 12 January 2017

Mountain rescue team members are on call every day, of every month, of every year. Whatever the time, day or night. Whatever the weather. They do it voluntarily. They do it without question. At no cost to the casualty. And it's thanks to your generosity, they can continue saving lives. So thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Throughout 2017 I am planning to travel 2000 miles on foot, split between walking 1000 miles and running 1000 miles

This includes a 10km trail race and a trail half marthon

Mountain rescue team members are on call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to recover climbers from precipitous crags, reunite lost walkers and ensure injured and sick casualties are safely delivered into vital hospital care.

They assist in the finding of lost children and vulnerable adults, rescue dogs and cattle amongst other animals, help in cases of flodds in cities, comfort distressed family members, and are just there as the safety net that allows us to do what we enjoy.

And now of that is even counting the fact that everyone is a volunteer, giving up their time, being on call and giving up time with family, training and working, all on a voluntary basis.

I have never needed to be resuced myself, but that doesn't mean it will never happen, and sometimes I feel that all of us who love the hills, mountains and fells may take this safety net for granted a little.
