Story
So I’ve always thought of doing some crazy, stupid charity fundraiser and I think I have come up with my first challenge. I’m going to attempt to cycle from my house in Petersfield, Hampshire all the way to Paris in a single day! Stupid I know. I’ve barely even done any cycling before, but that’s the point of a challenge. the route has been planned and it's a mere 254 miles door to door, including the ferry ride, and I am hoping to finish under the Eiffel Tower. I will be cycling to Newhaven, which is between Brighton and Eastbourne, a distance of 54 miles in time to get there in time for the 9am ferry. This will get into Dieppe at 15:00 which will give me 9 hours to cycle the 110 miles to Paris.
I am doing this in aid of CLIC Sargent, a charity aiding children and young people suffering from cancer and they helped support my brother as well. This is a way of giving something in thanks of their support. Here is their website: http://www.clicsargent.org.uk/. I’m not really sure how much I should be expecting to raise by doing this but I think I should aim big and go for £5,000. This would be an amazing effort by you all and very deeply appreciated. I will be in due course setting up a page where you can donate to, but as I am only just beginning to plan this I haven’t done so yet. I will be shamelessly plugging away for as much of your hard earned cash as possible as this really is a worthy cause.
As can be expected I will be attempting to blog my journey to Paris, which I can say STARTS TODAY! and will hopefully be completed on May 7th. I have ordered myself an exercise bike to start my training on and I have booked my own bike in for a much need service as it has been somewhat neglected recently. It’s time to put in some serious time and miles on the bike, which will hopefully see me end up under the Eiffel Tower!
My only aim from this is to change one child’s life for the better. Let’s make it happen.
