Story

IN LOVING MEMORY OF ALISON WILLIAMSON

“When Alison walked into a room she didn’t just light it up, she set it ablaze with her energy, her zest for life, her positivity and also of course her laughter and her mischievous sense of humour.  No one could have failed to have noticed that glint in her eye - that sense of fun.  Happiness and love just radiated from her.”

These were the opening words of the sermon delivered at the funeral of my wonderful, beautiful, inspirational, courageous and loving wife Alison. Let me tell you her story.

Alison loved life and made the most of every moment of it.  She was a classroom assistant and loved working with children. Alison was also the most amazing mummy to our two children - totally organised, loving, devoted, caring and basically everything the perfect mummy should be.  She was also my best friend and devoted wife.

At the end of 2014 Alison wasn’t feeling so well and in the following months she lost a lot of weight and her energy levels decreased rapidly.  In August 2015 Alison had her spleen removed and received the diagnosis of Hepatosplenic T-cell Lymphoma - a very rare and aggressive type of blood cancer.  Fifty days of chemotherapy followed and a stem cell transplant.  She spent a long time in three different hospitals and faced having to take 53 tablets and 4 litres of water a day. It was for her a horrendous and arduous journey of sickness, pain and suffering but Alison was prepared to undergo any sort of treatment available that would give her the opportunity of having more time with her family.  She never complained or worried about herself.  Even on her darkest days, she could still manage to smile and give you a thumbs up.  She never gave up the fight, she was determined to the end, it was just her weakened body ravaged by disease that couldn’t take anymore. She died very peacefully in hospital, with her family surrounding her, on Saturday 14th May 2016. She was just 31 years old.

In sharing Alison’s story with you I want you to help me keep her memory alive through raising money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI, a charity which was dear to Alison’s heart. This charity funds research into the causes and cures of leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma in Northern Ireland.

On 14th/15th October 2016 I along with my two brothers, cousin and six great friends, intend to climb the four highest mountains in the UK within a 48 hour period. It is a massive challenge for us but I know Alison will be there in spirit willing us all on.

If you would like more information please send me an email to alisonsmemory@gmail.com

If any company or individual would like to advertise on our tee shirts we would also be most grateful for your sponsorship.

Through these and many more fundraising events in the future we hope to raise awareness and provide financial support for this worthy cause which means so much to me, my family and so many others.  For those who have fought and lost; for those who have fought and won; and in loving support for those who are still fighting.  We feel the best gift we can give in memory of Alison is the gift of helping others.

Thank you for your
support.

Thanks to my family and friends for all their help and support behind the scenes and to those individuals, company's and businesses who very generously donated items for the auction and raffle. Thanks also to Armagh Rugby Club for allowing us the use of there function room for the evening. The big news is that last night we raised the absolutely fantastic sum of £8,715 !!!
