We raise funds for Camden School for Girls to improve arts and sports for all pupils

Story

More people have climbed Mount Everest than have swum the English Channel!

Which makes this challenge by six 13 year old girls, 4 of whom are in Yr 8 at Camden School for Girls all the more amazing! They have set themselves the challenge to swim as a relay team across the 21 miles of the Strait of Dover, swimming in strict rotation in 1hr slots until they touch land in France. The swim will take place anytime from 27th August onwards, weather permitting, in tidal water of about 16oC, and up to 100m deep, in the busiest shipping channel in the world! Starting at just before dawn, with no wetsuits, no lane ropes, only the sheer determination and the power of their own strength to reach France.

The girls have been 'enjoying' their cold water acclimatisation in the Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park. In June they will decamp for weekend training sessions at Dover Harbour. The squad is being coached by Rob Ouldcott, Lily's dad, himself a veteran Cross Channel Swimmner.

This swimming marathon was the brainchild of two Yr8 Pupils at Camden School for Girls, Lily Ouldcott, and Millie Elson who dreamed up the idea of a Cross Channel Relay Swim for their School mates. They are raising much needed funds to upgrade the Science Labs and IT facilities at Camden School for Girls. CSG has a unique sporting claim to fame in that thanks to the campaigning work of Francis Mary Buss, it was the first Girls school in Britain to include PE as part of its core curriculum. So please give generously and support Millie, Lily, Minnie and Ella! They are an inspiration to us ALL!
