Story

Welcome to the APL Event 7th Annual Charity Cycle Challenge.

Last year was a magnificent success raising an incredible £13,355 for The Rainbow Trust.

This year we're raising money for the Graham Wylie Foundation - https://grahamwyliefoundation.org.uk/

The foundation is based in the north east giving grants to fund equipment, buildings, staff and assets, for the benefit of children and young people. 100% of donations are given to deserving causes.

This year we're revisiting a 200-mile route we did a few years ago, Newcastle to Edinburgh. This time over three days as opposed to the leisurely four back in 201? (happy days)!

Rider Grecian has kindly volunteered to organise the pre-ride Thursday evening keep fit session with a warm up pre-hydration soiree around the toon hostelries - he who dares.......

Those capable, meet at the Pitcher & Piano on the Quayside at 09:00 on Friday (6th October) and follow route 72 to Tynemouth (our traditional finish) and via route 1 through Blyth and Amble to Seahouses, our first night stop. Fish n chips by the harbour followed by The Ship .....

Day two continues along route 1 through beautiful Bamburgh, Berwick and then inland via Coldstream and Kelso, staying overnight in Melrose at The Kings Arms, a quaint boozer with delicious grub and a delightful selection of local ales.

Tonight is bingo night - cash prizes for a line and full house. Your celebrity caller this evening is direct from Hepburn Trades and Labour working men's club, the one and only, the two and only Stan the man McCafferty! The man with the golden tonsils!

Sunday takes us through Galashiels to Innerleithing where we start the 15 miles climb over the Moorfoot Hills before descending to Dalkeith, Musselburgh and finishing on Princes Street, Edinburgh.......followed by the statutory curry and copious gallonage of local ales!

It's rumoured rider Crame is organising a cocktail waiter to provide an endless supply of stunningly sumptuous beverages to help wash down the Kismot Killer Curry (Google it)!

And its Luds birthday bash celebrating free prescriptions - yabadabadoo!

Day 1 - 6th Oct: Newcastle to Seahouses 71 miles

Day 2 - 7th Oct: Seahouses to Melrose 75 miles

Day 3 - 8th Oct: Melrose to Edinburgh 54 miles
