Story
Hello,
We are music promoters based in the UK known as Handson Family and Jazz Re:freshed, also known as Cyndi, Chris, Justin & Adam.
Affected deeply by the recent hurricane in Haiti, we decided to put on a fundraising benefit doing what we do best. Then we realised, that not everyone would be either to cram in to the venue we located and or/may not be able to attend.
Haiti had only just begun rebuilding from a devastating earthquake six years ago when Hurricane Matthew tore through the small Caribbean nation October 4th 20116, killing hundreds in its path and inundating entire villages.
Once again much of the country is a disaster zone, with powerful Matthew shredding homes and engulfing communities in knee-deep water that is taking time to recede.
A large portion of Haiti's food is produced in the south where the damage is most severe. It is a large breadbasket for the country. We expect to see food shortages and/or price spikes throughout the country in the coming weeks and months. This has the potential for creating not only great need but also increased violence and instability.
As musicians and artists united across the African diaspora, we wanted to show our support to a nation often forgotten on the international aid circuit.
This is for anyone in any part of the world who would want to contribute to this cause.
We are holding a benefit on Friday 9th December Upstairs in the Ritzy, Brixton/London with a host of musicians additionally with EXCEPTIONAL artists:
HEIDI VOGEL
ZENA EDWARDS
TAWIAH
YAABA FUNK
ANDREW ASHONG
ABDUL SHYLLON
After rigorous investigation of who may be the best recipients of the donation, we have decided to donate all proceeds to United Haitians in the UK, a growing community of Haitians, Haitian descendants, partners of Haitians and friends of Haiti, living in United Kingdom
