Story

When I was offered the opportunity to represent such a worth while and amazing charity while challenging myself beyond anything I have ever done before, I leapt at the chance.

Billed as the ‘Glastonbury for Runners’. Endure24 will take place on 14 – 16 June 2019 at Wasing Park in Berkshire.  My aim is to complete as many 5 mile laps as possible with the 24hr race period.  while most complete this as a relay (up to 8 members) I am seeking to do this 'Solo'.  This is without doubt, the hardest individual challenge I have ever undertaken and will test my mind, body and soul...

I chose to represent Living Paintings as their story and ethos struck a cord with me when I thought of the isolation and solitude one must feel when you lose or are born without sight; arguably the most important of the senses...

Living Paintings

The award winning, volunteer-led charity changes the lives of blind and partially sighted people, ending the isolation and exclusion they suffer because of their disability. We achieve this by creating and publishing Touch to See books that enable an understanding of the visual images that colour and inform our lives. The books are specially designed for sharing; therefore they can be used at school with other pupils and at home with family or friends. The unique books include tactile images, which are brought to life by immersive audio recordings, and are loaned through our free postal library. We run a national network of Book Clubs. These help to reduce isolation often felt by blind and partially sighted adults, enabling them to come together in a supported and stimulating environment and to be inspired by a wide variety of topics.

During the summer we featured in a BBC Lifeline appeal – if you have a few minutes please do watch the short video as it features some of our library and book club members using our services: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ast7Mw0A2AE&t=1s  You can also find us on social media @LivingPaintings

2019: Living Paintings 30th Anniversary Since 1989 when Living Paintings was established, we have helped transform the lives of more than 30,000 blind and partially sighted people across the UK through our Touch to See books and resources.
