Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Challenge 1000miles JustGiving page.

On the 1st of January 2017 I woke up and decided that I was going to start the New Year with a run along the Union Canal in Falkirk. It was freezing cold and during the run I found myself thinking back to friends, family and loved ones that are no longer here that would have loved to say happy new year and join me for a run.

At this point I thought to myself what challenges should I take on this year for Team McMillan, to help support and raise awareness to this heinous disease. Now I normally tackle events with the support of good friends Rob, Damien, Mark & even Kirstin has been roped into a few. This year will be no different, whether its training support, supporting during a hike, half marathon or even running the Men's 10k in Glasgow on Fathers Day with my son Ewan. However this year I have decided to push my body and in particular these old legs a bit further than they have ever been pushed before. I've even got to thank James Healey from work, as I know he will continue pushing me right up until the last of my events in Kendal.

So this year I have decided to run 1000miles which will include the following events:-

* Kielder Dark Skies Night Marathon on 25th of March
* Madrid Marathon on 23rd of April
* Belfast Marathon on 2nd of May
* Stirling Marathon on 21st of May
* Edinburgh Marathon on 28th of May
* Loch Lomond Hike on 3rd of June
* Men's 10k on 18th of June
* Aberdeen Half Marathon on 28th of August
* Queensferry Bridge Crossing 3rd of September
* Great North Run on 10th of September
* Loch Ness Marathon 24th of September
* Great Scottish Run on 1st of October
* Yorkshire Marathon on 8th of October
* M2N Marathon on 29th of October
* Kendal Trail 10k on 19th of November

Now I realise some of you will think "at his age" or "has he lost the plot" or even "is he mad"... Well yes on all points is the answer!!

Training to run just one Marathon in a year is tough, I will be running 10 this year as well as other events to 'keep my legs going'!
However the pain that I will undoubtedly be faced with is nothing compared to what anyone fighting Cancer has to face!!

I may well crawl over the finishing line in a few of the events, but one thing is for sure, I will complete the 1000miles challenge in memory of everyone that sadly cant run anymore.... #AL1000miles #RIP #keepfighting #bringiton  #KEMZO #LOVE

This challenge is somewhat tougher and certainly much more punishing than I have ever taken on previously. For that reason I'm asking each and everyone of you to please dig deep into your pockets & if you can support me to help others (even if its just £5), knowing that your supporting & making a commitment will be a huge boost to me when the going gets tough out there.

All that's left for me to say is fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan. Without people volunteering or doing any events, running marathons, climbing mountains, and donating in all the other ways that you can, Macmillan wouldn’t exist.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs.
