Story

Alex Hook, aged 24 has been a member of Blackburn Community Sports Club since 2005 and is now attempting to repay the £3500 funding the Club gave him last year for a new handcycle. He is doing this by completing a sponsored challenge on his new wheels, supported by Cycle Instructors from Sporting NRG.  Alex will be travelling a distance of 170 miles over a period of 4 days, taking in all the local Football League stadia on his trip. This will be the first challenge of many and Alex’s long term aim is to cycle from Ewood Park to Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup Final in the future. The more support he can receive for this challenge will offer encouragement that his long term aim can be achieved.

Alex was born prematurely and as a result has Cerebral Palsy, which means he has weakness in the left side of his body and cannot walk. He has been a member of BCSC disability section from its inception & is a popular lad with members and volunteers alike.

Alex received funding from the Club in early 2016 for a new bespoke hand-cycle.  Along with Football, Cycling is one of his passions and through doing this it improves his self-esteem, and is a release from every day stresses.  Setting challenges and completing them gives Alex
a huge sense of achievement, and gives him a goal to focus on in the build-up.  Alex has done multiple charity bike rides in recent years, but just as he was accustomed to life on the road and mentally feeling stronger for this, Alex unfortunately lost accessibility to his hand cycle. The financial loan from the Club has enabled cycling to be back on the
agenda.  The plan to cycle to all the football league grounds in the county, within a week is driven by his love of football and particularly of Blackburn Rovers. It is at Ewood Park where the challenge will end on Blackburn’s last game home game of the Football League season. By sponsoring Alex you are supporting the Club and offering Alex the chance to repay funding through his drive and determination to complete such a physical and mental challenge.
