Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Jack is a ten year old black Labrador who was on his last day in a dog pound. Jack was in a very bad way and didn't stand much hope of getting out of the pound alive.

It seems that Jack's owners moved away and didn't take him with them and the information obtained suggests that Jack had been fending for himself for over a year - which certainly explains why he was in such a bad way. He was eventually picked up by the dog warden and taken to the local dog pound.  Dog pounds usually only keep stray dogs for a certain number of days and if they are not claimed or rehomed, they are euthanised.

Luckily for Jack, Labrador Retriever Rescue Southern England heard about him and stepped in to save him and he was placed with us so that we could foster him while he got fit and health

The day after he arrived, we took Jack to the vet for his immunisations as they were expired, and when the vet examined Jack, she felt a huge lump in his tummy.  Jack had to go straight to surgery, as it was deemed to risky to wait.

The large lump was on Jack's spleen and as the vet bill was going to be large, and she knew that LRRSE is a charity with limited funds, she rang us to ask what she should do - whether to continue removing the lump and Jack's spleen, or put Jack to sleep.  Well, the charity could not let Jack die after all he had been through, so they agreed to cover the vet bill.

I am trying to raise money to help LRRSE pay Jack's vet bill,  as this means they will be able to help other dogs like Jack.

Oh - and the lump  weighed 1kg and the vet bill is nearly £1000.  Imagine the pain that poor Jack must have been in.  He didn't complain once though.  He is a dear old soul and has settled in very well with us.  I suspect he won't be moving out LOL
