Samaritans vision is for a society in which: Fewer people die by suicide People are able to explore their feelings People are able to acknowledge and respect the feelings of others

Story

I am swimming across the Solent from the mainland to the Isle of Wight on Sunday 26th July  2015 to support the Samaritans of the Isle of Wight and as a personal challenge having just reached a rather too big birthday. This is about a mile and a quarter but the tides are very strong and it is a busy shipping lane. A group of us will be accompanied by the Freshwater life boat, kayaks and rigid inflatable boats and we will  get a much needed  breakfast on arrival.

The Isle of Wight Samaritans is a great cause, supporting people who are struggling to cope including those who are suicidal and is run entirely by volunteers as well as having to find all their own funding. Former work colleagues and friends will know that suicide prevention has been close to my heart for many years and this is a chance to put my muscles where my mouth is.
