The Aspire Channel Swim 2016 · 5 December 2016 to 31 March 2017 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 6th of May this year, my mum suffered a terrible accident which resulted in life changing injuries to her spine and mobility. As a result of this accident, life as she knew it changed immediately. Having spent 3 months in the John Radcliffe Intensive Care Unit, she finally got a bed in Stoke Mandeville Spinal Unit on 12th August. She will be there for some months, until she reaches her potential. Aspire Charity, together with the Spinal Injuries Association is a charity I've never really paid attention to in the past. Selfishly, I'm glad I've never had a reason to. Unfortunately, now I do. So I'm doing this challenge (swimming 22 miles, in 12 weeks) for my mum and ultimately to raise awareness of the fantastic work they do. Its a devastating, but unfortunately true statistic, that, every 8 hours someone is paralysed from a spinal cord injury. Please, if you can, donate. Many thanks. Amy xxx
